United States is still number
One in publishing scientific papers, with more than 3,40,000 publications a
year. While this growth is about 30% over the past decade, Chinese have vastly
increased their output of scientific papers by more than 200% during the same
time. Chinese have published just about 20,000 papers in 1998, which has
substantially increased to more than 1,12,000 which is second only to USA.
United
States is Number One in Research, followed by China, Japan,
Britain and Germany.
Chinese research is
concentrated in the physical sciences and technology, especially materials
science, chemistry and physics.
