IELTS vs TOEFL vs PTE: Which English test to take in 2026
All three are accepted almost everywhere. The right one depends on how you think, not where you're applying.

The three major English-proficiency tests for study abroad:
IELTS — paper or computer, 2h 45m, human-graded speaking. Accepted by every university in UK, Australia, NZ, Canada and 3,500+ in the US.
TOEFL iBT — computer, 2 hours, AI + human graded, integrated tasks combining reading + listening + writing.
PTE Academic — computer, 2 hours, fully AI graded, results in 48 hours. Accepted by all major Australian, UK, NZ, Canadian universities and increasingly in the US.
Our default recommendation: PTE if you need results fast, IELTS if you're applying to UK visas, TOEFL if the target is a US-heavy shortlist.
