Everything you need to know about studying in Canada
When should I apply for Fall 2026 intake in Canada?
Fall (Sept) is the main intake with Jan and May as secondary. Apply 8–10 months in advance: Nov 2025 – Feb 2026 for most masters, earlier for scholarship rounds. Documents: transcripts, IELTS/TOEFL, SOP, 2–3 LORs, resume, portfolio if design/architecture. Post-offer, budget 6–10 weeks for study permit + biometrics.
Which Canadian MBAs are worth it and are GMAT waivers realistic?
Rotman (Toronto), Ivey (Western), Desautels (McGill), Schulich (York), Sauder (UBC) lead. GMAT 660+ or GRE 320+ is the safe band; some schools waive with 5+ years managerial work-ex. Most Indian students bring 3–7 years work-ex; average post-MBA base is C$110K–140K plus signing bonus.
How many hours can I work part-time on a study permit?
As of Nov 2024, off-campus work is capped at 24 hours per week during term (up from 20) and unlimited during scheduled breaks. Typical hourly wage is C$16–22 for on-campus jobs and retail; TA/RA roles pay C$25–40. You need a valid SIN before you start.
What is the PGWP and did the 2024–25 rules change it?
The Post-Graduation Work Permit length matches your program: 1 year for 1-year programs, up to 3 years for 2-year+ programs. From Nov 2024, most public college graduates need a program on the eligible field-of-study list; university degree grads (bachelor's, master's, PhD) are exempt from that list. We only shortlist PGWP-eligible programs.
How employable are Indian graduates in Canada?
Placement rates at co-op-heavy schools (Waterloo, UBC, Toronto) run 85–95% within 6 months. Top recruiters: RBC, TD, Shopify, Amazon, Deloitte, EY, CGI, TCS Canada. In-demand roles: software engineer (C$85–110K), data analyst (C$70–90K), product manager (C$100–130K), nurse practitioner (C$95K+), supply chain analyst (C$70–85K).
How do I get PR in Canada after studying?
Standard route: finish an eligible program → PGWP → 1 year of Canadian work experience under NOC TEER 0/1/2/3 → apply through Express Entry (CEC) or a PNP like Ontario OINP / BC PNP. CRS cutoffs in 2025 rounds have averaged 490–540 for general draws and 420–480 for category-based draws (STEM, healthcare, French).
What scholarships can Indian students apply for?
Canada Graduate Research Scholarship – Doctoral (CGRS-D), Ontario Graduate Scholarship (C$15K, Feb–Apr), UBC International Leader of Tomorrow (up to full tuition, Dec), University of Toronto Lester B. Pearson (full ride, Nov). Most universities also offer automatic entrance awards of C$3K–20K based on admission GPA.
What IELTS/TOEFL/PTE scores does Canada require?
Undergrad: IELTS 6.5 overall (no band <6.0), TOEFL iBT 86+, PTE 60+. Postgrad: IELTS 6.5–7.0, TOEFL 90–100, PTE 65+. Waivers with English-medium instruction letter are limited: do not assume, we confirm per program.
