Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 2026
Impel Overseas Consultants ("Impel", "we", "our") is an education consultancy that helps Indian students discover, apply to, and prepare for higher education abroad. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect from students and their families, how we use it, and the choices you have. This policy applies to our website, counselling sessions (in person, phone, video), WhatsApp/email communications, and application-processing services.
1. Information we collect
To advise you honestly and submit applications on your behalf, we collect the following categories of information, most of it directly from you:
- Contact details — name, date of birth, phone, email, city, postal address.
- Academic records — 10th, 12th, undergraduate marksheets and transcripts, degree certificates, backlog details.
- Test scores — IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, Duolingo, GRE, GMAT, SAT and similar.
- Identity & travel documents — passport copy, government ID, previous visa records, photographs.
- Financial information — bank statements, ITRs, sponsor details, education-loan documents (only when required for a visa file or a loan/scholarship recommendation you request).
- Recommendations & essays — SOPs, LORs, resumes, work-experience letters you share with us.
- Communication history — enquiry-form submissions, counsellor notes, WhatsApp/email/call records.
- Website usage — device, browser, IP, pages visited, referral source (via standard analytics tools).
2. How we use your information
- Provide free counselling and shortlist universities, courses and countries suited to your profile.
- Prepare and submit your applications to universities and partner institutions.
- Guide your student-visa file, including supporting documentation and mock interviews.
- Introduce you to education-loan providers, scholarship programs, IELTS/PTE coaching, and pre-departure services when relevant to your case.
- Send you intake reminders, deadline alerts, event invites and other service communications.
- Improve our website, blog content and counsellor training.
- Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from authorities.
3. Sharing your information
We share your information only where necessary to deliver the service you asked for, and only to the extent required:
- Universities and their admissions portals — with your consent, to submit your application.
- Visa authorities and Visa Facilitation Service centres — to file and track your visa application.
- Test providers (IELTS/PTE/TOEFL/Duolingo etc.) — where you book or verify a test through us.
- Education-loan and scholarship partners — when you request an introduction.
- Service providers — cloud storage, CRM, email, analytics and communications tools that operate on our behalf under confidentiality obligations.
- Legal, regulatory or law-enforcement bodies — when required by law.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your documents with third parties for marketing.
4. Data retention
We retain your information for as long as needed to serve your application cycle, meet contractual and legal obligations, and support you post-departure through our alumni community. Where the law allows, we retain limited records for statistical, audit and dispute-resolution purposes. You may request deletion at any time (see Section 6).
5. Data security
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect your information — access controls on our CRM, encrypted cloud storage for documents, staff confidentiality obligations, and vendor due-diligence. No internet transmission is 100% secure; we ask you to also protect your account credentials and share sensitive documents only through channels we recommend.
6. Your rights
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Request deletion, subject to applicable legal and record-keeping obligations.
- Withdraw consent for future processing (this may affect our ability to continue your application).
- Opt out of marketing communications at any time via the unsubscribe link or by writing to us.
To exercise these rights, write to us at the address in Section 10.
7. Cookies and analytics
Our website uses first-party cookies and standard analytics (e.g. Google Analytics) to understand how visitors use the site and improve the experience. You can disable cookies in your browser; some parts of the site may not work as expected.
8. International transfers
Because we submit applications to universities and authorities outside India, your information may be transferred to and processed in other countries whose data-protection laws differ from India's. By instructing us to submit your application, you consent to these transfers.
9. Children's privacy
Our services are intended for prospective higher-education students, typically 17 years and older. If we discover that we have inadvertently collected information from a child below the applicable age of consent without parental involvement, we will delete it promptly.
