Study in Italy

Undergrad: IELTS 6.0 overall, TOEFL iBT 4.0, PTE 55. Postgrad: IELTS 6.5 (no band <5.5), TOEFL iBT 4.5+, PTE 62+. Bocconi wants IELTS 7.0 for MSc, GMAT 680+ for MBA. Polimi Design accepts IELTS 6.0 + strong portfolio. Duolingo 105+ accepted at Polimi, Bocconi and most publics. MOI letters are widely accepted at public universities if your degree was fully English-medium.

Non-EU students on a permesso di soggiorno per studio can work up to 1,040 hours per year (about 20 hrs/week during term, or full-time in summer). Minimum wage is set by sector (there's no national minimum) — typically €8–12/hr for retail/hospitality, €12–20/hr for tutoring, €15–25/hr for design/tech internships. You'll need a codice fiscale (tax code) and health insurance.

After graduation you convert your student permit to a 12-month 'permesso di soggiorno per attesa occupazione' to search for work. Land a role paying €39,347+ (2025) with a bachelor's or higher and you're eligible for the EU Blue Card — 2-year renewable permit, family reunification included, lets you move to any EU country after 18 months. 5 years continuous residence = EU long-term residence (Carta di Soggiorno UE).

Italy offers strong opportunities in Fashion Management, Design, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Business Management, and Food Technology, with growing demand across manufacturing and design industries.

Route: Student permit → post-study 'attesa occupazione' (12 mo) → EU Blue Card or regular work permit → after 5 years continuous legal residence, apply for Permesso di Soggiorno UE per Lungo Soggiornanti (EU long-term residence, transferable across 27 EU countries). Italian citizenship is possible after 10 years of residence (or faster via ancestry, marriage, or naturalisation categories). Italy has one of the more generous family-reunion routes in the EU.

Public university tuition (income-linked ISEE, most Indian families qualify for lowest band): €900–4,000/yr (₹85K–3.6L). Private: Bocconi MSc €15–17K/yr (₹14–15L), Polimi International track €4K/yr (₹3.6L), Domus Academy €30K/yr. Living: Milan €900–1,300/month (₹85K–1.2L), Rome/Turin €700–1,000 (₹65K–90K), Bologna/Padua €600–900 (₹55K–85K). Two-year masters total: ₹15L (public) to ₹50L (Bocconi).

One main intake: September/October for the academic year. Public universities apply Dec 2025 – May 2026 via Universitaly + Uni-Italia; Bocconi, Polimi Design, LUISS, IE and private schools open Sep–Feb rolling. Standard file: transcripts (with Dichiarazione di Valore or CIMEA statement, ₹8K), IELTS 6.0+/TOEFL iBT 80+, portfolio for design/architecture, SOP, 1–2 LORs, GRE/GMAT for Bocconi/LUISS. Type D visa takes 4–8 weeks after acceptance.
