So I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy new year 2026. Hope you have a wonderful blessed year ahead. And this is one of the most important video you will be watching this year as we are going to discuss some important changes that are coming into effect this year and some important reminders that you need to know as an international student. So without wasting any single minute, let's get into the video.
The the first change that has just come into effect from the 1st of January 2026 is the increase in national planning levels also known as soft cap on international student numbers. So from the 1st of January 2026 the number for the national planning levels have increased to 295,000 spots for international students which is 25,000 more sports than the previous year 2025. For those who don't know for last couple of years, Australian government has been announcing these national planning levels for each education provider here in Australia. Basically each and education provider who teach international students here in Australia are allocated a number that will be their allocation or cap for that year.
So that number has increased from previous year which is a positive news and I'm sure most of you already know about that. Now moving on to the next major change which is regarding the visa processing especially for offshore student visas. Offshore means people who are applying from outside Australia. Now from last year or two the visa processing for student visas has been based on education providers allocations.
But from 14th of November 2025 government have made some changes to visa processing and they will be processing student visas based on three different levels. The first level which we can call it as green level as well. It will be for education providers who have not reached 80% of the allocations for the year. So students who are applying for these educational institutes where they have not met
